When we install Dashcam systems into vehicles, it is important to understand how the vehicle replenishes its 12 volt battery when they are hardwired to record whilst parked. In vehicles that have engines this is normally done by a device called the alternator. Whilst your vehicle is powered on, it is using power from the alternator and the 12 volt battery. However when the car is parked the 12 volt battery runs down (slowly). If you don't use your vehicle for a week or two, the battery may drop down so much that your vehicle might not have enough power to start the engine.
Dashcam's don't really have an impact on the vehicle battery whilst driving.
But, if you also opt for the parking mode security whereby the cameras are monitoring the vehicle surroundings and recording any incidents whilst parked, this will affect the vehicle battery.
Not entirely relevant for the Kona being an Electric Vehicle as 12 volt battery is automatically replenished from the main lithium battery whilst driving and also the 12 volt battery doesn't have as much stress due to not having to 'start an engine'. So, if you use the Kona on a daily basis you will have full parking mode 24/7 and the length of video recorded is only restricted by the memory card on each of the cameras.
The Goluk dashcam comes with 32gb of memory and this gives approximately:
Remote action button = around 150 x 12sec clips
Urgent (Parking Mode and impact detection whilst driving) = about 250 x 16 second clips
Loop (normal driving mode) = around 5 hrs loop recording of 3 min clips
TimeLapse (space shared with Loop) - gives approximately 5 days of constant time-lapse footage whilst parked.
The cameras are upgradeable with standard MicroSD class 10 memory cards, we recommend Toshiba Exceria with sizes available up to a staggering 400gb per camera.
