Installing a 4K Front and 2K Rear Dashcam in a Kia EV5 Near Scunthorpe

We recently supplied and professionally installed a 4K front and 2K rear dashcam system in a new Kia EV5 for a customer near Scunthorpe.

The customer wanted high-quality front and rear recording, discreet wiring and reliable parking-mode protection, without cables hanging around the interior or being routed awkwardly through the Kia’s rear tailgate.

To achieve a clean, professional result, we installed the rear camera through the tailgate grommet but other installers might find it easier using our own DC03 rear dashcam headliner mount. This avoids the need to feed the camera cable through the rubber wiring gaiter between the vehicle body and the tailgate.

Why Choose a 4K Front and 2K Rear Dashcam?

A 4K front dashcam records the road ahead in ultra-high-definition, providing the best possible chance of capturing important details such as:

  • Vehicle registration plates

  • Road signs and markings

  • Traffic-light sequences

  • Vehicle movements

  • Pedestrians and cyclists

  • Evidence following a collision or disputed incident

The 2K rear camera provides excellent coverage behind the Kia EV5, helping to record vehicles approaching from the rear, tailgating incidents and collisions while driving or parked.

This combination offers an excellent balance between video quality, storage requirements and overall cost. The front camera records the most important view in 4K, while the 2K rear camera provides clear supporting footage from behind.

Professional Kia EV5 Dashcam Installation Near Scunthorpe

A professional dashcam installation involves much more than simply sticking cameras to the glass.

For this Kia EV5 installation, we handled the complete process, including:

  • Supplying the correct front and rear dashcam system

  • Updating and configuring the cameras before installation

  • Positioning both cameras for the best possible field of view

  • Routing the cables discreetly behind the vehicle trim

  • Safely connecting the system to the vehicle’s Fusebox

  • Configuring parking mode and battery protection

  • Testing the front and rear recordings

  • Providing a complete customer handover

The finished installation leaves the Kia EV5 interior looking neat and uncluttered, with the front camera positioned discreetly behind the rear-view mirror and the rear camera mounted securely above the rear window.

Kia EV5 Dashcam Installation Process

1. Selecting the Dashcam System

Before the installation, we discussed the customer’s budgetary requirements and recommended the BepoCam two-channel system with:

  • 4K front recording

  • 2K rear recording

  • Parking-mode protection

  • Discreet front and rear cameras

  • Smartphone footage access

  • High-capacity memory-card support

This provides comprehensive coverage without the premium price of some higher-end systems.

2. Preparing the Kia EV5

We inspected the vehicle interior and identified the best positions for the front and rear cameras.

The front dashcam was installed high on the windscreen, behind the rear-view mirror. This keeps it largely outside the driver’s normal field of vision while still giving the camera a clear and central view of the road.

3. Installing the Front Camera

The 4K front camera was mounted securely behind the rear-view mirror.

Correct positioning is important because the camera must:

  • Have a clear view through the swept area of the windscreen

  • Avoid obstructing the driver’s view

  • Remain accessible when the memory card needs to be removed

  • Avoid interference from windscreen sensors or vehicle cameras

  • Record a balanced view of the road and bonnet

Once fitted, the camera remains discreet from the driver’s seating position.

4. Installing the Rear Camera (with Our DC03 Mount)

Rear dashcam installation can be one of the most time-consuming parts of fitting a two-camera system.

A conventional installation often involves routing the cable through the rubber gaiter connecting the vehicle body to the tailgate. This gaiter may already contain tightly packed wiring for the rear lights, heated window, electric tailgate, rear wiper and other vehicle systems.

If you dont have relevant installation experience, trying to force another cable through this area can be difficult and may risk:

  • Damaging the factory wiring

  • Splitting or dislodging the rubber gaiter

  • Creating a possible route for water ingress

  • Damaging interior trim clips

  • Leaving the cable trapped or under tension

For this Kia EV5, we carried out a full professional installation, routing the rear camera cable through the vehicle's original tailgate rubber grommet. This provides the most factory-style installation possible, with the cable completely hidden as it passes from the vehicle body into the tailgate before connecting to the rear camera.

Routing the cable through the tailgate requires carefully removing sections of the interior trim and feeding the cable through the factory wiring gaiter without disturbing or damaging the existing wiring. This is a job that requires patience and experience, particularly on modern vehicles where space inside the gaiter can be very limited.

Once installed, the cable is completely concealed, leaving a neat, OEM-style finish with the rear camera positioned centrally for an excellent view through the rear window.

Professional Installation vs DIY Installation

As professional dashcam installers, we generally route the rear camera cable through the factory tailgate grommet wherever practical, as this provides the most discreet installation possible.

However, we appreciate that many customers choose to install their own dashcams. Feeding a cable through the tailgate gaiter can often be the most difficult and time-consuming part of the entire installation, especially on vehicles with tightly packed wiring, electric tailgates or restricted access.

For those customers, we also manufacture our own range of rear headliner dashcam mounts, including the DC03, which allow the rear camera to be mounted securely without routing the cable into the moving tailgate. These mounts provide a much quicker and simpler alternative for many DIY installers while still achieving a clean, professional-looking finish.

Why Use a Rear Dashcam Headliner Mount?

Our rear headliner mounts were originally designed to make difficult rear-camera installations quicker, safer and neater.

They are particularly useful on vehicles with:

  • Difficult or tightly packed rubber wiring gaiters

  • Bonded rear glass

  • Large plastic tailgate trim panels

  • Rear spoilers that restrict cable access

  • Electric tailgates

  • Fragile trim clips

  • Limited space for additional cables

The Kia EV5 uses our DC03 mount, which positions the rear camera neatly beneath the roof lining.

The cable can then be routed behind the vehicle’s interior trim without needing to enter the moving tailgate.

For professional installers, this can considerably reduce installation time. For DIY installers, it removes one of the most awkward and potentially damaging parts of fitting a rear dashcam.

Discreet Dashcam Cable Routing

The dashcam cables were routed carefully behind the Kia EV5’s headliner and interior trim.

Special attention must be given to the vehicle’s curtain airbags. Dashcam wiring should never be placed across an airbag or installed in a way that could obstruct its deployment.

The cable route was planned so that the wiring remained:

  • Securely retained

  • Hidden from view

  • Clear of the curtain airbags

  • Clear of moving components

  • Free from sharp bends or trapped sections

  • Accessible for future removal if required

Our installations are designed to be fully removable, leaving little or no evidence that the system was previously fitted.

Hardwiring and Parking Mode

This Dashcam system was connected to a suitable power supply in the Kia EV5 fusebox using a professional hardwire installation.

Hardwiring allows the camera to operate automatically when the vehicle is driven and enables parking-mode recording after the vehicle has been switched off.

Parking mode can help capture:

  • Parking impacts

  • Vehicles reversing into the car

  • Deliberate damage

  • Suspicious activity

  • Hit-and-run incidents

  • Movement around the vehicle

The hardwire system also incorporates battery-voltage protection. This is important because it prevents the dashcam from continuing to record if the vehicle’s 12-volt battery falls below a safe level.

Although the Kia EV5 is an electric vehicle, it still uses a separate low-voltage battery to operate many of its electrical systems. Correct battery protection is therefore essential.

Dash Camera Setup and Testing

Before installation, our dashcams are prepared and configured days before.

This can include:

  • Installing the latest firmware

  • Formatting and testing the memory card

  • Setting the correct date and time

  • Adjusting sound notifications

  • Configuring video resolution

  • Selecting parking-mode settings

  • Updating available speed-camera information

  • Testing smartphone connectivity

After installation, we checked:

  • The front-camera angle

  • The rear-camera angle

  • Video recording quality

  • Memory-card operation

  • Power-on and shutdown behaviour

  • Parking-mode activation

  • Smartphone connection

  • Audio and notification settings

Any necessary adjustments were completed before handing the vehicle back to the customer.

Customer Handover

Once testing was complete, we provided the customer with a full demonstration of the dashcam system.

This included showing them how to:

  • View live footage

  • Connect to the camera using their smartphone

  • Download important recordings

  • Protect an incident file

  • Remove and format the memory card

  • Identify front and rear recordings

  • Check that the camera is operating correctly

  • Access footage following an incident

We also explained how parking mode works and how the battery-protection system helps protect the Kia’s low-voltage battery.

Benefits of Professional Dashcam Installation

Choosing a professional installer helps ensure that the dashcam performs correctly without compromising the appearance or safety systems of the vehicle.

Benefits include:

  • Correct camera positioning

  • Minimal blind spots

  • Discreetly hidden wiring

  • Safe routing around curtain airbags

  • Secure electrical connections

  • Correct parking-mode operation

  • Battery-voltage protection

  • Full system testing

  • Installation and equipment support including warranty

  • A complete customer handover

Poorly completed DIY installations can lead to visible wiring, loose cameras, unreliable power connections or cables being incorrectly routed around vehicle airbags.

Incorrect hardwiring may also result in the camera failing to enter parking mode or unnecessarily discharging the vehicle’s 12-volt battery.

Maintaining Your Dashcam

Once installed, a dashcam requires relatively little maintenance. However, we recommend occasionally carrying out the following checks:

  • Clean the front and rear camera lenses

  • Confirm that both cameras are recording

  • Check the camera angle after the vehicle has been serviced

  • Format the memory card periodically

  • Replace heavily used memory cards when required

  • Install firmware updates when available

  • Make sure cables have not been disturbed or unplugged

It is especially important to check the dashcam after windscreen replacement, vehicle servicing or interior repair work.
