We visited this customer in Yorkshire to install their Nextbase dashcam into this brand new Genesis GV60. We also advised on fitting the Nextbase hardwire kit to a switched live supply as oppose to a permanent live supply. The reason being, the nextbase hardwire kit has a low voltage cut off of 11.6volts, which in our experience is way too low, no matter how you use your vehicle. For reference, at 11.6volts, a 12 volt battery is nearly flat, at only having around 20% charge. Its not wise to run it this low and you risk not being able to start your car and even damaging the 12 volt battery. The dashcams & kits that we supply have the flexibility of changing the parking mode and voltage settings within the app and this is great for Electric Vehicles as they also allow in depth monitoring and recording of the 12 volt auxiliary battery. Reason being - The Tesla computer is very power hungry and requires lots of energy when its turned on. This customer wanted their own Nextbase dashcam installing into their 1 day old MG4 EV in Yorkshire, we gladly obliged. What is the voltage cut off for Nextbase hardwire kit? Some nextbase kits have a cut off voltage as low as 11.2v and some at 11.6volts. We advised on fitting the Nextbase hardwire kit to a switched live supply as oppose to a permanent live supply. The reason being, the nextbase hardwire kit has a low voltage cut off of 11.6volts, which in our experience is way too low, no matter how you use your vehicle. For reference, at 11.6volts, a 12 volt battery is nearly flat, at only having around 20% charge. Its not wise to run it this low and you risk not being able to start your car and even damaging the 12 volt battery. We actually visited another customer with an MG4 this week to install his rear Nextbase dashcam as the previous installer couldn't install the rear camera. The customer had purchased the Nextbase dashcam including install from Nextbase's website but when the installer tried to fit the rear dashcam he wasn't sure how to do it so left it. The installer had also installed the nextbase dashcam with low 11.6v cut off kit to a permanent live so we pointed this out and rectified the install. The dashcams & kits that we supply have the flexibility of changing the parking mode and voltage settings within the app and this is great for Electric Vehicles as they also allow in depth monitoring and recording of the 12 volt auxiliary battery. Nextbase dashcam installer The MG4 has its own battery management system that automatically recharges the 12 volt auxiliary battery from the main lithium pack whilst parked. This allows us to set our installed battery cut off voltage accordingly (as a fail safe) and this results in the cameras being able to be powered and benefit from parking mode recording whilst the MG4 is parked up.
