Thats more than likely its heat protection kicking in to protect itself from failure or even damage. Electronic components are normally ok in hot weather but in extreme temperatures, things might start to go wrong if you don't follow the manufacturers instructions especially with memory cards. Dashcams are mounted in locations that are normally already hot and are built to take these temperatures. Most good dashcams can work ok between -10 deg C and + 70deg c and outside of this range some may also have extreme temperature protection (the GNET range have this). So when the camera exceeds a safe temperature level, it will automatically shut itself down and this is perfectly normal. Some compact Dashcams may run fairly hot to the touch, depending on ambient temperature as the camera body also acts as a heatsink to disperse heat. When you are driving this is not a problem but if you have Dashcams that run when they are parked for parking mode then this applies to you. Dashcam Memory cards NEVER BUY CHEAP MEMORY. Whats the point in investing in a good dashcam to then find out that the memory card has failed prematurely, especially when you need it because of an incident. The standard G-ON dashcam comes with a 3 wire cable for connection to your vehicle 12 volt, 12 volt switched fuse sockets and a ground point. When you don't have the tools or equipment to be able to identify those fuse connection points, or if your vehicle doesn't have those fuse points then we can configure the camera accordingly and the camera cable will come with an OBD II plug. Most vehicles have an OBD socket and this is normally located in the drivers footwell. This socket may provide data and diagnostic information from your car and it also has a dedicated fused 12 volt feed (normally around 10 to 15 amps) that can provide power for the GNET dashcam. For reference, the GNET camera uses around 350 milli-amps (.3 amp). The GNET dashcam enters and exits parking mode by reading the voltage from the 12v switched live feed however, we program the camera so that it enters and exits parking mode by using the built in G-Sensor. Due to the OBD socket in your car being "live" (always providing 12 volts), you can also fully configure the low voltage cut off protection on the camera using the app (we will do this for you anyway as a matter of course), we will also make sure that the camera gets shipped with the very latest firmware. We recommend the camera low voltage protect be set at 12volts, so, the camera will provide parking mode, monitoring and recording its surrounding always powered until your vehicle battery drops to around 12 volts. At this point the camera will shut itself down until you start your car, but will then automatically power itself up. So, for those that are happy to fit and tuck away their own camera wiring but want that "hardwire look" with hidden cables but don't fancy touching the fusebox, then this is the kit for you. There is an increase in keyless vehicle thefts around the country including Yorkshire and Lincolnshire with more discrete key copying devices being more easily available to criminals. A quick google search will show how vulnerable your vehicle might be. Keyless RangeRover thefts Keyless Range Rover thefts Leeds keyless Mercedes theft Yorkshire It is believed that criminals are using the likes of Facebook, Gumtree, ebay and Autotrader to choose and pick their target, effectively using these selling sites as their personal catalogue for their next victim and the next car they will steal. The video below shows just how quick and easy it is to copy a keyless entry key and then use it to steal the car minutes later. If you have an electronic car key, criminals have access to devices that can clone your car key signals: The signal that allows your car to simply unlock when your key is close to the car. The signal that unlocks your car with a physical press on your remote key fob. The signal that actually starts your car when it is inside. It effectively clones your car key electronics so your car thinks they have your original car key. But in order for them to clone your key, they have to be close to it. They may look for a car they wish to steal using one of the popular selling sites and then contact the owner to come and have a look at the car just like the criminals did in the video above only a few weeks back. This is where you need to be vigilant and aware of them potentially getting close to your key and cloning it. They may only need to be a few meters away but tell tale signs could be: Them fumbling around with their hands in their pockets, (the device could be as small as a tennis ball) Not really paying attention to the car, Not asking the normal questions you would when potentially looking to buy the car They may also ask for the car to be started. If you can, keep your key in an RFID protective pouch like the Tornado RFID key blocker, even when prospective buyers come round to view your car. This way it shields your car key so that it cant be cloned. You can show them round your car without unlocking it or even unlock it prior to them coming or unlock it with an app (if your car has this function). Criminals also have no need to be near your key if they are carrying a "relay device". This may resemble a small laptop pc and criminals would use this device by standing at your front door, normally in the early hours of darkness to extend your car key signal so they can unlock your car and drive it away. If your car has other protective measures such as Pin to drive like on the Tesla (you activate this function and then enter a personal pin to start the car) then you should activate this. You can also have an immobiliser fitted like the highly acclaimed GHOST II. Ghost II immobiliser installer We are accredited and TASSA trained to install a security immobiliser like the Ghost II. These will stop your vehicle from being started and driven away. There is no way for criminals to bypass a Ghost immobiliser and they are undetectable in your vehicle when installed. Moving over to a Tesla Model 3 from a car that would have a dashboard display may be hard to adjust for some. So, when this customer asked if we could install one he had purchased at the same time as fitting his GNET front and rear dashcams we gladly obliged (we do love tech!). We installed a GNET G-ON1 front and rear dashcam, hiding all wires along the existing Tesla wiring channels. Teslacam vs dashcam The built in cameras on the Tesla are good, but the main front & rear camera fall short in comparison to Manufacturers like GNET Systems. This is in many ways with the most obvious being recording quality, resolution, field of view and also hardly any impact to the Tesla battery. The very latest in quality & data video recording technology, a 2K GNET G-ON Dashcam was installed into this Tesla Model S, complimenting the existing built in cameras. Being an existing customer from nearly 3 years back originally having 1080p Goluk cameras, he has now utilised the 2 Goluk cameras by having them installed into his wife and daughters vehicles. One of the cameras needed an internal backup battery replacing which we completed whilst installing. G-ON 2k Dashcam The G-ON 2 2K dashcam provides excellent parking mode recording, recording a H.265 encoded video in 2K true HDR quality whilst driving and in order to extend the recording capacity, this automatically changes to 1fps whilst parking. Should the motion detection be triggered by a car driving past or a person walking by then the camera automatically increases to 15fps whilst parked. If an impact is detected then video is captured seperately. The cameras have a LBP mode (Low Battery Protection) that is built into the camera so no extra power magic devices or additional costs required here. This means the camera can be powered 24/7 and automatically power off should your vehicle 12 volt battery get to a low state of charge. In the Tesla Model S, this camera is powered 24/7 with next to no impact to the main lithium battery pack, a stark contrast if you activate sentry mode for the built in TeslaCams with this having a BIG impact to your Tesla miles/range. Reason being - The Tesla computer is a powerful beast and requires lots of energy when its turned on, which is a shame that the built in cameras have such a low resolution (480p/720p) and on some cameras a poor field of view (the front has a very narrow field of view that may be a detriment should vandalism occur at certain points around the car. WithCloud - live cloud upload and recording Withcloud is included with this camera, should you wish to use the great cloud function then all you would need is a mifi hotspot or a usb LTE dongle (coming soon) and a data plan. You can also use your smart phone as a shared data connection whilst you are driving in your car but if you want 24/7 monitoring and live view then a separate mifi unit is recommended. There are settings to add 3 x wifi hotspots to the camera so you can even add your home wifi if you car is close enough. This will allow you to use the cameras over the internet and view footage at a lower resolution. The front camera was secured using an M3 hex bolt on the existing BMW 5 GT cowl behind the rear mirror without any modification to the original trim.
