Parking mode is a function of certain dashcams that allows video recording in a vehicle that isn’t being operated (parked). This feature can be described as “Parking Mode” or “Parking Surveillance.” Your dashcam effectively becomes a surveillance system when you’re not driving your car. True “parking mode” means that the dashcam is capable in knowing when the vehicle is parked, usually with the assistance of built-in GPS positioning or shock / g-sensors in the camera. Tesla allow you to use the built in cameras to imitate the functions of a dashcam but most (if not all) fall short in comparison to dashcams such as Blackvue, Thinkware or Goluk. Third party cameras are dedicated to higher video quality and features such as remote cloud viewing and notifications along with regular firmware updates providing other improvements. The Blackvue records 24/7/365 with either motion / impact detection or time-lapse whilst parked with minimal affect to the Tesla battery. On Tesla vehicles, should you wish to enable the built in autopilot cameras as a dashcam using sentry mode, the consequences are that you lose considerable miles whilst parked. Not only that, the focal point and field of view of the built in cameras are focused to assist in its autopilot abilities and not that of a wide angle view dashcam. The owner of this Mercedes A Class had a well known chain install a nextbase camera but unfortunately the rear camera kept falling off and then the mount broke so he contacted us to remove the Nextbase dash cam and install a new system. The wiring install of the Nextbase camera was up to standard but unfortunately the fuse tap connection into the fuse box wasn't fit for purpose. When you use a fuse tap to connect into the fuse box, its important to make sure the orientation is correct otherwise the car isn't protected by the fuse at all and should there be a fault with the dashcam this could have potentially caused damage to the car. (We haven't ever known this to happen but the fuse tap should have been installed correctly).
