Tesla Model S 90D. A Goluk T1 was installed into the front of this Tesla Model S 90D with a wider view angle and a Goluk T3 installed into the rear, completely hiding the wiring by following the Tesla's original loom in existing conduits. The Front T1 camera assembly was modified to allow an OEM look by mounting it to the Tesla Model S's cowl directly behind the rear view mirror. This negated any sticky pads being placed on the windscreen. The Goluk is attached using an M3 bolt and cushioned with hidden 3m tape to existing holes in the cowl so no modification was needed on the Tesla and the installation can be removed without a trace when required. There have been a few improvements made that require users to update the firmware in their cameras. Don't worry, this is a straight forward process and what this does is to add enhancements and also fix any bugs that may require fixing. Firmware Updates in layman terms is reprogramming the units "brain" and this can take up to 3 minutes. You should ensure that your car is switched on at all times whilst upgrading the firmware. If you own a Tesla Electric Vehicle, it is fine to update the camera's installed by Shield-IT at any time. The main improvements in this revision are WIFI connectivity/Stability that some users may have been experiencing. Firmware Upgrade Procedure: The update should be done with a mobile phone that has a Data signal in order to check & download the new firmware. You must also ensure that the memory card has been formatted. First ensure that you connect to the Goluk’s WIFI. Open up the Goluk App and press the “Me” button in the bottom right corner Select “Camera Management” Select “Firmware update” At this point your phone will search for the update and download it. Select the new update and this will then be applied to your camera after a few minutes. * It is important to not power the cameras down or turn your vehicle off whilst updating as this could damage the camera and is not covered under warranty. Many people presume "any" vehicle dash camera that has a high resolution will be more than perfect for them. They also look for the cheapest, highest resolution camera and often forget the importance of the quality of the camera along with its functionality. Why go to the trouble to source a camera which you *think* may fit your requirements to only find when you need to review the footage due to an accident, hit & run or damage in a car park that there either isn't any footage OR the footage that you have is so poor, it doesn't help you in any way. Take a look at this first snapshot of a drivers Dashcam footage in which another driver actually undertook in a 30 zone. The Dashcam has what sounds to be a great high resolution video image of 2560 pixels wide by 1090 pixels high. However the number plate of the car undertaking is unreadable and very pixelated. The reason for this is that the Dashcamera's bitrate is only 7Mbps. The bitrate is the bandwidth of how the data is laid down in the video file on the card. In fact, the higher the resolution goes, so must the bitrate and even at 7Mbps on a 1920 x 1080 image, it is a very low bitrate for the quality that is required in a vehicle. Currently the Blackvue 650s records at 1920 x 1080 7Mbps front camera and the rear is 1280 x 720 Mbps rear. Now take a look at the contrasting image below of the next generation Goluk T1. This records at 1920 x 1080 and has a staggering bitrate of 12Mbps, nearly double that of the blackvue and many more cameras. After having a Blackvue Dashcam previously in another Tesla Model S, this customer in Somerset had very specific requirements for his Tesla Model S P85D. 1) The Dashcam must be reliable, and when video is required, be assured that it will be there and that you will be able to retrieve the footage from a stable and reliable phone/tablet App. 2) Recording Quality. Both the front and rear cameras must be true 1080p with a high bitrate as the previous rear Blackvue 650s Camera was only 720p with an average bitrate of less than 7Mbs resulting in a degraded quality picture when trying to read registrations of vehicles in motion. 3) Wifi connectivity with Parking Motion detection. The parking motion on the Blackvue was so sensitive that it ended up filling the memory card with lots of unnecessary footage. Two Goluk T3 camera's were installed, one in the front and one in the rear. As the Goluk has a Panasonic 1/3-inch 2.1Mp/Full HD digital image sensor, the image quality of the recording through the rear window was exceptional, even with the window tints that were installed. This customer based just North of Newcastle wanted the best quality 1080p recording whilst travelling to ensure safety carrying his family in his 7 seater Tesla Model S P90D. He was pleased to understand that the Goluk motion detection system also provided addition security and benefits whilst he parked. The car was able to monitor both movement and impact to the vehicle. Should either happen then both the front and rear Goluk T3 cameras would record a 12 second video clip, 6 seconds before the incident and 6 seconds after. This vehicle didn't require the gps/speed recording however wanted the best possible picture quality and parking security to detect people near the vehicle and also detect if the vehicle had been hit whilst parked. A Goluk T3 hard wired stealth solution was installed into a Tesla Model S. Includes a remote "action" button to capture 12 seconds of video and also parking motion tracking/detection and "knock" sensors built into the unit. The Goluk T3 camera records excellent 1080p footage with a high recording bit rate resulting in higher quality video footage when you really need to count on detail. Due to the Tesla being Electric, battery monitoring was not required and can benefit from video recording whilst parked.
